The closest thing today you can play to this would be something like Fire Emblem. I have played Shining Force my whole life up until it stopped being 'Shining Force' with the last one being Shining Force 3 for the Sega Saturn. I love the Shining Force series for it's rich story and engrossing gameplay. Also, I own all the games that encompass that era I stated previously. If you enjoy the 'Shining' games after Shining Force 3 for the Sega Saturn I.E Shining Force EXA, Shining Force NEO, Shining Blade, etc this is not the game for you.Shining Force 1 and 2 is a tactical RPG where you control up to 11 characters including you, the main character, in battles against the forces the evil in a story that actually do connect to each other if you played every game in the series and get into it. If SEGA was to actually respect the North American public and release the series properly the proper order to play these games are Shining Force 1 (genesis), Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict (game gear japenese only), Shining Force 2 (genesis).
